PC Corp’s Community Impact

Shaping a positive future for a thriving, stronger community and beyond.

We care about making life better for our neighbours.

That passion for our community is why our day-to-day operations at PC Corp aren’t solely focused on technology solutions.

Our team also works to contribute positively to improving the communities we call home. We are dedicated to using our privilege, skills and resources to work towards ensuring everyone can access an environment that supports our collective success.

Proud Members of the United Nations Global Compact

As IT professionals, we realized that building a stronger community and a fairer and more sustainable future is much like crafting a robust and secure IT infrastructure: both take consistent effort and long-term commitment.

PC Corp is proud to be a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) of this voluntary initiative. Participating in this international initiative, the UNGC gives us a solid framework for driving positive societal change.

In everything we do, we’ve seen that the best outcomes come from taking proactive and tangible steps. Now, we have a powerful way to uphold our public accountability in pursuing corporate social responsibility goals over time.

What is the United Nations Global Compact?

Labeled the "world's largest corporate sustainability initiative” -- with 20,000+ members in over 160 countries -- the UNGC unites global communities to deliver the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations in 2015.

The UNGC's ultimate objective is to use business 'as a force for good’, with the belief that if companies align their operations with ethical practices and take strategic actions emphasizing collaboration and innovation, they can help accelerate a global collective positive impact.

The Compact provides a comprehensive policy framework to help members operate based on higher principles and restructure their internal processes. They outline how businesses can rethink their operations, strategy, and culture to reflect the UNGC’s strong value system and societal priorities, which include protecting our planet, ending extreme poverty, and combatting inequality and injustice.

Why PC Corp Joined the UNGC

At PC Corp, "make a difference" is one of our core values. That plays out in our internal committees dedicated to advancing change: Diversity Equality & Inclusion Committee, Community Projects Committee, Green Projects Committee, and our Health & Safety Committee.

And, as a leading technology provider, we also recognize our unique role in influencing both our industry and the sectors we support.

By joining the UNGC, we will better focus these efforts and better understand what responsible business means within different national, cultural, and language contexts. We’re able to learn from international experts and engage in dialogue, collective action, and partnerships with like-minded companies.

As a result, we're discovering how our once-independent actions can become part of the greater good and help us more effectively fulfill our responsibilities to other people and the planet.

A Local Lens for Global Change

Since signing onto the UNGC, we’ve been working on updating our previously established committees and programs to align their mandates with the Compact’s objectives. Our team also works to contribute positively to improving the communities we call home. We’re dedicated to using our privilege, ability and resources to work towards ensuring everyone can access an environment that supports our collective success.

Here’s what each internal initiative aims to accomplish:

DEI

Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Driven by a commitment to diversity and inclusion, this committee works to recognize and celebrate the differences in PC Corp’s team. We want everyone to feel welcomed and respected, so we strive to foster a caring and just work environment.

Beyond initiating our membership into the UNGC and overseeing PC Corp’s ongoing commitment to its principles, this committee has also helped our company become an Alberta Living Wage Employer.  On an ongoing basis, they guide the work involved in developing fair hiring processes and policies that give equal opportunities to all qualified candidates.

Community Projects Committee (CPC)

PC Corp wants to enrich the lives of the people where we live, work, and play – so we created this committee to inspire our team to make a difference for those in need in our community.

The members devote themselves to increasing awareness of community service organizations and regularly creating fundraising opportunities with our charities of choice, the Calgary Food Bank & Edmonton Food Bank.

Beyond fundraising for these organizations and conducting regular food drives to benefit the people that rely on them, our committee has also established various initiatives, including:

  • Sourcing warm winter accessories for low-income students with our annual Mittens & Toques Campaign
  • Supporting local restaurants with our Takeout Days
  • Collecting clothing and other essential items to provide to local shelters and Better Living programs
Health

Health & Safety Committee (HSC)

Traditionally, this committee's focus is to support the safety of our employees by recognizing workplace hazards and evaluating the risks that may cause injuries and illness to our workers ...

While the committee’s mandate will always include these activities, working under the UNGC has expanded this team's focus beyond our corporate doors. They also focus on protecting and supporting those in our community who are vulnerable to harm and shine a light on safety issues within our community. For example, we aim to increase awareness and reduce stigma with our Opioid Harm Reduction Training – our team gained the skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond to an opioid poisoning emergency and reduce opioid related deaths.

They have also developed and are implementing programs to support our PC Corp team’s  health and wellness – such as fiT Easy – a fitness and wellness program that provides wellness breaks and physical fitness sessions to employees.

Green Projects (GPC)

At PC Corp, we recognize our responsibility as caretakers of this planet. This committee focuses on implementing practical initiatives that empower our staff to take individual actions that protect our environment.

Our sustainability strategies encompass a wide range of initiatives, including:

  • Promoting responsible recycling practices for a wide range of items, from electronic devices and toner to mixed materials like paper, glass, metals, and plastics.
  • Installing efficient lighting and equipment,
  • Keeping our street, parking lots and community clean through programs like Calgary’s Adopt-a-Block and Edmonton’s Capital City Cleanup.
  • Partnering with responsible vendors and suppliers whose actions align with our environmental, social, ethical, and economic values

Our Green Projects team has also influenced official corporate practices, leading to a no-idle policy for company vehicles that reduces our collective emissions, a “Refuse Policy” for industry swag that cuts back on our waste.

Most significantly, they encouraged PC Corp to partner with Tree Canada. We contribute a percentage of our daily sales toward planting trees to restore and maintain Canadian forests.
